Where shall we go today?
We are visiting Rackheath in Norfolk. I believe it had an important role as an Airbase. Is it open to the public at all? Indeed does it still exist? Sandra.

Hi Sandra. It certainly did have an important role and parts of it do still exists. The majority is an industrial estate with some repurposed buildings still present including a hangar. The watch office is also present as offices. Parts of the runway are still there and some odd buildings amongst the forest across the road front the airfield, although these are private grounds. The local church also has a display although it was closed when I was there and I believe only open at certain times, worth a look if you can. Have a look at trail 58. https://aviationtrails.wordpress.com/choose-your-trail/trail-58-to-the-east-of-norwich/.

Thank you Caroline. I’m glad you found the site interesting. Binbrook is one on my list to visit myself, certainly an iconic airfield, particularly post war. I hope you enjoy your time there!

Wow – how interesting. We will use this when we visit in 2019 02 2020. Mum’s cousin was at Binbrook. never came home. Buried at Kleve.
