Huge Losses in Life and Machines

During the second World War, huge numbers of RAF, Commonwealth and USAAF crews laid down their lives in the name of freedom. Many of these brave people were barely out of school. For many, it was their first time away from home.

In the US Eighth Airforce alone, over 10600 missions were flown from UK airbases resulting in some 4000 young men failing to return to their homeland.

Each base and the missions are listed – a sobering number indeed.
